THE TEAM

RESEARCH

Since there is a wide range of selection that involves mountain activities, the crucial make-decision factor that leads to a design response was to inverse ourselves into the activities itself, by inquiring and analysing users during the process. We decided to focus on one of the most popular natural activities in the younger audience in Bogota, which is hiking.

Observation and interviews were the main methodologies used to understand unaddressed necessities in the group.

INSIGHTS

Pauses do not take longer than 15 minutes each

Removing and taking the backpack on is one of the most frustrating aspects during pauses

Hikers try to avoid direct contact with any wet surface, using backpacks as a support to lay on

Using backpacks as support may damage the content, some soft objects must be carried apart

IDEATION AND PROTOTYPING

After having the insights and the final analysis from the primary research, we have a base to start the creative process that leads to the prototyping stage. A hard, but light structure to provide users with a rest surface was proposed as a solution, moreover, it offers additional protection to the content.

A low-weight aluminium structure offers protection to the content and allows the user to repose the whole body on it. It offers 2 divisions, which together sum capacity of 80 litres, ideal for all hiking equipment and all that users might require.
